Cardioid Plane Microphone KEM 975 with Delta-Capsule
The Cardioid Plane Microphone KEM 975 is a new design of the patented instantaneous line array microphone principle, which is already in use in the KEM 970. A completely new circuit design has been developed; besides the well-proven ceramic capsules of the M 300 series, Microtech Gefell have developed a low-noise preamplifier system for the KEM 975. Also, the construction of the housing has been completely revised without changing any of the critical dimensions of the Line Array itself; as the capsule positioning and relationship is an integral part of the design. The result of the revision is a shorted overall body length. Compared to the KEM 970, the KEM 975 Cardioid Plane Microphone has an increased dynamic range. There are 5 switch settings covering the entire Line level. Microtech Gefell’s well-proven optical principle to generate the capsule polarisation voltage is also used in the KEM 975 – this eliminates any “nasties” on the power line getting into the audio circuit.
Delta-Capsule
IRT München (Institut für Rundfunktechnik), who originally designed and patented the line-array microphone and licensed Microtech Gefell to manufacture it, have significantly enhanced the directivity at low frequencies by the addition of a patented assembly that adds an extra microphone capsule mounted at the rear. This additional capsule assembly is available as an optional accessory. The advantage of this new construction, coupled with the improvements in lowering the noise floor, mean that the new KEM 975 is also suitable for music recordings as well as sound reinforcement, broadcast and video conferencing applications. By using an optimised filter system, the sound of the rear capsule is summed with the sound of the Microphone Line Array. The output of the complete arrangement is provided at the 3-pin XLR output connector of the N 975 power supply. Signal integration is automatically enabled (“plug and play principle”) when the Delta-Capsule system is connected to the KEM 975 microphone.
Power supply
The N 975 power supply is connected to the microphone by a 5-pin XLR cable. The new power supply is available either as a half width 19” – 1U rack unit or, alternatively, as table-top variant.

Microtech Gefell M 210The Gefell M200 cardioid is part of a series of three modular condenser mics that include the M210 hypercardioid and the M270 omnidirectional. Each mic comes complete with capsule head and microphone amplifier and capsules are interchangeable for maximum flexibility. The combined use of ceramics and a hand stretched gold evaporated Mylar (PE) capsule provides a rich, natural tone with universal appeal for studio, broadcast, on-stage and location sound.
Microtech Gefell M 221The condenser microphone M 221 unifies universal small diaphragm capsule technology with a metal diaphragm and a modular preamplifier. The use of a certificated measurement capsule combined with a preamplifier with 48 V phantom powering reaches a constant magnitude and phase response and transmission properties which are long-term stable. Application Because of the small capsule dimensions the M 221 is ideally suited for applications where a low interference with the sound field is demanded. It is usable as a main microphone for recordings which should include a certain amount of the room response. As well the M 221 is suited as a spot microphone for recording instruments very close where the low frequencies should be transmitted in detail and original. Moreover it can be used for multichannel main microphone arrangements like AB stereophony or decca tree. For these applications the microphone is ideal because of its precise and long-time stable transmission properties. The M 221 has an excellent transient response because of the pressure transducer capsule and is really suitable to record instruments with extreme transients. With the both different sized spherical corpuses a high frequency accentuation can be produced in an acoustical way to increase the presence and to compensate the high frequency roll-off in the diffuse sound field.Acoustical Specifications The pick-up pattern is equivalent to the longitudinal direction of the microphone. As sound transducer a condenser capsule with a diameter of 12,5 mm and a very thin metal diaphragm is used. The pressure transducer capsule exhibits an omni-directional polar pattern without proximity effect. Because of the free field equalization the M 221 has a constant frequency response from 3,5 Hz up to 20 kHz (± 2 dB). The static pressure equalization between the capsule interior and the atmosphere goes through a vent to the preamplifier. Therefore the humidity adaptor TA 202 is usable to protect the microphone in application with high air humidity. The use of the M 221 with the spherical corpus KA 3 effects a frequency response accentuation which begins at approximately 1 kHz and goes constant at 3 dB from approximately 4 kHz up to 12 kHz. With the spherical corpus KA 4 the accentuation of the high frequencies starts also at approximately 1 kHz and goes constant at 3 dB between 3 kHz and 12 kHz. Electrical Specifications The transformerless circuit design of the electronic impedance converter with symmetrical output facilitates an output capability for sound pressures from15 dB(A) up to 136 dB with a maximum of 0,5 % THD (total harmonic distortion). The microphone is connected by a standard 3-pin XLR-male plug with gold-plated pins which realizes the powering by an external 48 V phantom supply according to IEC 61938 with a current consumption of 6 mA. Mechanical Specifications The M 221 consists of a microphone capsule and a microphone preamplifier as independent mechanic parts which are connected to a complete microphone through a screw thread. Microphone capsule and microphone preamplifier have an identical overall diameter of 12,7 mm which enlarges to 21 mm over the length of the microphone preamplifier to the connection side of the microphone. The shape of this enlargement is designed for a minimum interference with the sound field. Microphone capsule and microphone preamplifier have together a length of 170,4 mm. On the connection side of the M 221 there are standard microphone holders mountable. To reach a higher attenuation against solid-born sound and impulses there are elastic holders and suspensions usable. The weight of the M 221 is 123 g what allows to use the microphone with stand mountings as well as to hang up the microphone from the ceiling without any problems.Technical Data

Microtech Gefell M 270The M270 provides the flattest response of the three SMS2000-series mics; it is flat to 3kHz, then rises to +6dB at 10kHz. This deliberate presence peak provides additional clarity and “brilliance” for ambient (“far-field”) recordings. The M270 mic ships in a padded wooden case in either of two finishes
Microtech Gefell M 295The M 295 extens the studio microphone System SMS 2000. The proved microphone capsules M 70 and M 94 form a unit with the modified microphone amplifier MV 200.These microphones are designed for a universal applications in professional recording and sound reinforcement and meet the requirements of modern technics. The newly developed, transformerless circuit design substitutes the previous transformer for a symmetrical output stage. Its intrinsic noise and remarkably output capability emphasize the advantages of the microphone capsules M 70 and M 94. Microphone capsules with an extremly thin metal diaphragm enable brilliant sound transmission. The direction of maximum sensitivity is axial. The studio microphones are equipped with a wide range of accessories for many microphone mounting methods.lt is possible to activate a 10 dB-attenuator pad for handling very high sound pressure levels. A sensitivity reduction for low frequencies can be utilized to suppress the proximity effect. The two switches are into the middle of the preamplifiers. The microphone is equipped with a standard 3-pin XLR connector fitting to a microphone cable, e.g. C70. The operation voltage is provided by 48 V phantom powering, according to the international standards DIN 45596 and IEC 268-15.They are available in a satin nickel or a black matt finish. Both condenser microphone capsules are pressure gradient transducer. The converter elements contain a nickel diaphragm with a thickness of less than 1 µm. The back-plate electrodes are Teflon-coated to increase operational reliability.M295 The frequency response in the upper range is nearly linear while in the Iower frequency band it features a slight roII-off to counteract the bass lift of dose speech (proximity effect). The microphone is thus ideally suited for recordings in close proximity to the sound source.lt is recommended to use a popscreen and to switch on the microphone bass rolI-off for closerange applications.A windscreen can be utilized to enhance life-like recording.
Microtech Gefell M 296The M296 condenser microphone is an addition to the metal diaphragm microphone family which includes the M 294 / M 295. There are accessories for XY-, ORTFand INA 5 arrangements available. Because of the balanced low-impedance transformer output the M 930 Ts can be used for longer cable length with negligible distortion. Acoustical Specifications The pick-up pattern is perpendicular to the direction of the microphone axis (side adressed) and is marked by the model number and the polar pattern symbol. The company logo is at the reverse side of the microphone. A condenser microphone capsule with a diameter of 28 mm and a gold-plated polyester membrane is installed as sound transducer. The polar pattern is cardioid with a very high attenuation of rear sound incidence. The M 930 Ts has a constant frequency response with an accentuation of approximately 2,5 dB between 6 kHz and 12 kHz to raise the speech and high-frequency presence. The change of the low end frequency response caused by the proximity effect is well-balanced without a very strong overemphasis at small microphone distances Electrical Specifications The newly optimized circuit topology of the impedance converter leads in combination with the specially designed output transformer to a very high transmission level range for sound pressure levels from 7 dB(A) to 144 dB with a maximum of 0,5% THD (total harmonic distortion). As a result, the M 930 Ts has a clean, distortion free sound over an extremely wide dynamic range. RFI susceptibility is very low. The microphone is connected by a standard 3-pin XLR-male plug with gold-plated pins which realizes the powering by an external 48 V phantom supply according to IEC 61938 with a current consumption of 6 mA. Mechanical Specifications The capsule is mounted elastically in the compact microphone housing of the M 930 Ts with adiameter of 45 mm and a length of 130 mm for attenuating solid-borne sound and impulses. If a higher attenuation of such influences is required it can be achieved by elastic holders and suspensions which are available as accessories. The weight of the M 930 Ts is 273 g without any holder and suspension. That weight allows the use of the microphone with standard microphone arms, stand mountings and other holders as well as on a microphone tang without any problems.Features:

The M 930, M 940, M 950 studio condenser microphones combine modern large diaphragm capsule technology with the latest in semiconductor circuit topology. They are specifically designed to meet the needs of professional and semi-professional users who demand the highest performance. The microphones are ideally suited for universal miking applications in broadcast and sound studios. Their very favorable pricing also makes them attractive for project studios. Applications include vocalists, announcers, dialog pickup and as spot microphones for recording guitars, keyboard, percussion, wind and string instruments. The pick-up pattern is perpendicular to the direction of the microphone axis (side addressed). The model number and pick-up pattern symbol mark the front of the microphone. The condenser capsules exhibits a smooth frequency response with a slight presence boost in the 7 to 11 kHz range. The polar response exhibits an exceptionally high degree of rejection for sounds impinging from the rear (cardioid) or sides (super-cardioid) of the microphone. The electronic impedance converter uses a newly perfected circuit topology. This design reduces the noise floor to an extremely low level while also raising the maximum output capability. As a result, these microphones have a clean, distortion free sound over an extremely wide dynamic range. RFI susceptibility is very low. The microphone capsule and electronics are elastically suspended inside the compact metal housing. This reduces the sensitivity to mechanical impact and structure born noise. The microphone stand holder MH 93.1 can be exchanged for an elastic suspension EH 93 to further attenuate noise in extreme situations. The M 930, M 940, M 950 connect to the microphone cable with a standard 3-pin XLR plug. Powering must be provided by an external 48 V phantom supply according to DIN 45596 and IEC 268-15.The microphones are finished in either a satin nickel or dark bronze color.
