To bring the LS1 quality to a broader audience, Grimm Audio introduces the LS1a. This is a more cost effective sibling of the LS1, where the company focussed on maintaining all important aspects that make the LS1 sound so special, and compromising only in areas where this was passable.
Our new flagship product LS1be takes the LS1 performance to the next level. Our aim was to improve transparency even further by focussing on “authority, control and flow”. To achieve this we worked on lowering distortion and extending the linear audio band. We added a new Beryllium tweeter, which was co-developed with Seas. It extends the frequency range and has 9 dB less distortion than our original tweeter. Furthermore we lowered jitter, improved the power supplies, employed some exclusive component selection and decided on silver power supply wiring for the finishing touch.
We improved transparency even further by focussing on “authority, control and flow”.
At the low end of the frequency spectrum, we obtained an even bigger improvement. Our newly developed Digital Motional Feedback (DMF) subwoofer has an impressive 30 dB lower distortion, which means the bass area is now just as transparent as the mid and treble.
The LS1be is of course accompanied by the LS1r controller and the LS1i USB interface, well known from the LS1. The cabinet can be ordered in a stylish ‘Hi-Macs’ artificial stone finish or in our traditional bamboo veneer look.
A pair of LS1s stereo subwoofers integrate seamlessly with the LS1. Its phase corrected crossover at 70 Hz is already build in the LS1, so just adding the subs turns the system into a unique phase coherent three-way system.
Although the LS1 on its own can play down to 40 Hz with quite impressive power, the bottom octave down to 20 Hz is hard to produce with a two-way loudspeaker system. Especially classical music does benefit from a balanced reproduction of these ultra low frequencies. Also, people who like to listen at raised volume once in a while will value the lower LS1 system distortion offered by the LS1s option.
At low frequencies, wave lengths are so large that the speaker's orientation does not matter. This fact offered us the opportunity to elegantly fit the LS1s between the legs of an LS1, facing upwards. As a bonus the LS1s can be taken off the footplate and placed in the optimum position for low frequency reproduction, that is not necessarily the ideal spot for the main loudspeakers. To match the immaculate quality of the LS1, we selected a top notch Peerless woofer and a 400W class D amplifier of Hypex fame.
Grimm Audio’s CC1 brings the incredible clock stability of the AD1 to your current setup! The CC1 accepts Word Clock and distributes a super high quality Word Clock and AES/EBU sync to all equipment in your system. Now, any studio can benefit from some of the features of our AD1’s unique sound quality like ultimate musical timing and stability of tone.
Grimm Audio’s extensive research into the correlation between jitter and sound quality brought to light that emotional response to music is vastly more sensitive to jitter than previously realized. Attention turned from “making jitter low” to achieving the most stable clock possible. This research turned up a surprising array of previously underestimated performance factors like power supply noise, oscillator control circuit noise and low-level crosstalk. Owing to a radically redesigned discrete crystal oscillator, clock stability betters that of even the best test equipment available.
To sync to an external reference the CC1 sports a PLL offering an astounding 90dB of jitter suppression at 10Hz, further improving at 60dB/dec. The CC1 offers base rates of 44.1kHz and 48kHz and 1/2/4 multiples in separately selectable groups, in addition to an AES/EBU reclocker for cleaning the digital feed to your DA converter. Like all Grimm Audio products, the CC1 features striking styling and solid build quality.
If you are the kind of person who likes converters to sound transparant, so flavors can be added in a controlled manner, the Grimm oscillator circuitry will be your first choice. It objectively has the lowest jitter of any pro audio clock device on the market. By using the CC2 as external word clock generator for your sound card or digital mixing desk, its sound quality is very likely to increase.
Whether you are working in a recording studio, a mastering studio or mixing live sound, the CC2 will guarantee optimal sound quality. Customers using a Grimm Audio clock report "superior detail and imaging" and "a palpable increase in naturalness, extension and spaciousness". With the CC2 this top quality clock performance is now within reach of everyone's budget.
In any audio device, the power supply is a significant contributor to sonic success or failure. In tube microphones this is even more so than anywhere else. The MP1 allows you to realise the full potential of your treasured vintage or contemporary tube mic. Hear your mike as never before.
The 'MP1 | Grimm' re-writes the book on tube mic supplies. Drawing from the extensive expertise gained designing the supplies used in the AD1 and CC1 products, the MP1 uses discrete voltage regulators, a shunt regulator for the anode supply and a high precision series one for the filament supply. The anode supply offers noise as low as
-100 dBV (in average 20 dB beter than existing supplies) and the 'shunt' design turns the regulator into an active decoupling device, eliminating electrolytics. Voltages are factory pre-set to match the customer's microphone specs.
Stylish, compact and practical, the MP1 fits well on any recording stage.
Grimm Audio's Video to Word Clock Converter VCC adds video-sync functionality to the CC1 or any other word clock receiving device. Although many postproduction facilities have selected word clock for all their synchronisation needs, in some cases an audio system just has to synchronize to a video source. VCC offers a convenient add-on system that takes very little space.
VCC will slave to both PAL and NTSC. Its power light doubles as lock indicator. The rugged box and fixed power adapter connection make sure this vital function will perform reliable even in live setups.
Mark that although the VCC can turn the word clock input of any device into a video clock input, it has no jitter attenuation of its own. For low jitter performance, please use the VCC with a Grimm CC1.
